Position Description

The middle school head softball coach is responsible for organizing the softball program at Lancaster Middle School.  The head coach will conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of an Assistant Baseball Coach

-          The head softball coach instructs players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.

-          Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.

-          Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice.

-          Determines game strategy.

-          Supervises athletes during practices and competition.

-          Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

-          Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.

-          Maintains the team equipment in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.

-          Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.

-          Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.

-          Organizes tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.

-          Effectively communicate with parents, as directed by the head softball coach.

-          Knows and understands the softball league rule book and any changes that are made.

-          Recognizes and uses each player’s specific talents to devise plays and playing strategies for games.

-          Participates in fundraising events and activities when coaching.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

-          Understand the fundamentals of the game of softball.

-          Be in good physical condition.

-          Have the ability to motivate players to reach their potential.

-          Must have exceptional leadership skills.

 

Education and Experience 

-          Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience as an Assistant Coach, or a Head Coach is preferred.

-          Looking for a coach who competed at the college level, club team level, professional level, or high school level.
