PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To help students overcome problems that impede learning and to assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their personal fulfillment as mature and responsible man and women.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold the Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement as guidance counselor.
- Two years of successful teaching experience, at least one year will have been in elementary.
- Have demonstrated the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel, and members of the community.
- Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other employees.
REPORTS TO: Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counsels with students individually and in groups, to assist in problem-solving and decision making of a personal, social, emotional, academic, educational, avocational, or vocational nature.
- Provides for the student’s orientation to the offerings of middle school and high school, its personnel, facilities, regulations, rules, customs, traditions, courses, health, discipline, attendance, guidance counseling, and psychological services.
- Collects, organizes, and disseminates information concerning employment, and explains educational opportunities beyond the secondary school level.
- Collects and interprets data about students to assist in program planning, technical, and or educational placement, and student adjustment.
- Provide information for students by assisting in appraising their interests, aptitudes, abilities, educational achievement, and minor aspects of personality.
- Provide information for students by assisting in program planning in accordance with available data so that students may have the opportunity to utilize their abilities more fully and establish realistic goals in education, employment, and life.
- Assists in the administration of the state testing programs and administer other tests in accordance with regulations established by the Superintendent or Designee
- Consults with other school staff on making recommendations for schedule changes,individualizing instruction, and submitting and/or processing referrals to the psychologist.
- Confers with parents in appropriate individual or group sessions on the personal, educational, and vocational development of their children, the total education program of the school, the post-high school educational and occupational opportunities for their children.
- Cooperate with other authorized service providers by assisting in group sessions with teachers, students, and administrators.
- Facilitates transition of students by providing for consistent articulation between middle school and high school.
- Serving as a community liaison agent,
- Assist the public in an understanding of the total school program
- Present research data to appropriate professional personnel.
- Undertakes the continuous evaluation of the nature and scope of the guidance services as outlined above for the efficient, inclusive, and effective functioning of guidance as an integral part of the total educational program.
- Participates on the Positive Behavior Support Team.
- Assists administration and teachers with multi-tiered intervention strategies to support student growth in the areas of academic, social, or mental health.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As per contract and board policies and regulations. This is an 11 month contract.
EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certificated personnel.
