Position Description
The high school JV cheer coach is responsible for helping organize the cheer program at Lancaster High School. The JV head coach will conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct student athletes in techniques and learning cheers. The JV coach is also required to assist the Varsity coach during practice, games, and post season tournaments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Instruct players in the regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
- Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as the cheer coach.
- Assesses player’s skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps up with academic performance of players.
- Supervising athletes during practices and competition.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Maintains the team equipment in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
- Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students.
- Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
- Effectively communicate with players, parents, and administration.
- Participates in fundraising events and activities when coaching.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Be in good physical condition.
- Have the ability to motivate players to reach their potential.
- Must have exceptional leadership skills.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of coaching experience as an Assistant Coach, or a Head Coach.
- Seeking a coach who competed at the college level, club team level, professional level, or high school level.
