QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Endorsement in Elementary Education. PreK-6 required or eligibility for Virginia Licensure in Elementary Education.
  2. Valid certification to meet ESSA requirements with specific endorsement in the area in which assigned.
  3. Applicants who have had teaching experience must have an acceptable rating for such teaching.
  4. Prior teaching experience at the elementary level is preferred.
  5. Master's degree in education or a related field is preferred but not required.
  6. Experience or additional endorsements in the areas of administrations, technology, engineering or science preferred.

OBJECTIVE:

    

To provide engaging, project based lessons that incorporate the 5C’s of an infinite learner: critical thinking, creative thinking, communication, collaboration, and citizenship skills to students K-6 in a resource class across multiple content areas (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics),  along with other essential duties. 

Considerable knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of elementary math and science instruction in a public school setting; of current curriculum development, program implementation and planning in elementary math and science, learning theory, recent research and available state and local resources; child growth and development, group dynamics and related state and federal regulations. Experience teaching project based learning lessons to students in grades K-6. Demonstrated ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and well written communication and to react effectively with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community. Working skills in the use of technology including word processing, spreadsheet and database software (Google apps for education preferred).  Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule and monitor work assignments. Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, research and planning and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  1. Prepares written communications relating to general and specialized work of the department.
  2. Plans instruction to achieve learning objectives that reflect current division and state curriculum standards.
  3. Uses materials and resources that are compatible with student’s needs and abilities and which support the approved curriculum.
  4. Provide engaging, project based lessons that incorporate the 5C's of an infinite learner: communicator, collaborator, critical thinker, connector, creator, and citizen to students K-6 in a class across multiple content areas (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

  5. Collaborates with the building level administration, building level staff, Science/Math Lead Teachers and district level Science/Math/Art curriculum Specialists in the development and implementation of programs, events and instructional practices that will increase the number and variety of STEAM experiences for all students.

  6. Assists with the review and identification of quality instructional materials and pedagogical best practices, and provides staff development opportunities for teachers and administrators in the area of STEAM.

  7. Delivers STEAM oriented instruction through Project Based Learning methods.
  8. Links present content with past and future learning experiences, other subject areas and real world experiences/applications.
  9. Uses researched based instructional strategies that promote student learning.
  10. Recognizes individual learning differences and differentiates instruction to meet student needs.
  11. Provides a variety of ongoing and culminating assessments to measure student performance.
  12. Provides on-going and timely feedback to encourage student progress.
  13. Uses student performance data in instructional planning and decision making.
  14. Adheres to appropriate scoring and grading procedures and policies.
  15. Maximizes the use of instructional time to increase student learning.
  16. Manages/maintains behavior that promotes learning.
  17. Organizes the classroom to ensure an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
  18. Communicates effectively and appropriately with students.
  19. Works collaboratively with staff, families and community agencies to support student success.
  20. Initiates and maintains timely communication with parents/guardians and administrators concerning student progress or problems.
  21. Demonstrates professional, moral and ethical behavior and exhibits personal integrity in all interactions.
  22. Participates in an ongoing process of professional development.
  23. Provides service to the profession, the school, the school division and the community.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

As per contract and board policies and regulations.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of certificated personnel.
